MICHALIS ✦ FIRE EMBLEM 12

And right next to Michalis is a midget who's trying to reach a book of poetry on the top shelf that is clearly out of his reach. He's hopping up to try and grab it and everything. This is frankly kind of ridiculous.
Please have pity on him, because he will die before he asks for help from a tall person.]

Michalis likes being here, honestly - he's never really been one for reading, despite his education not being lacking in any way when he was growing up; he simply just didn't have it in him to care about the struggles of fictional people. But you know what, he's spoken to a few people here who are into the whole poetry thing, and that's what he's doing in this section to begin with (to see if there's any he likes, anything that will actually resonate with him, or if it'll just be The Struggles Of Fake People II: This Time With Linebreaks) when he becomes rather...aware...of his current company.
And, well, he's here in all his 6'1" glory, so like.]
...I assume you don't want me to destroy your pride by getting that for you.

...If this poet was any less good I'd say no, but...
[He really wants to reach that book.]
no subject
He'll reach out and get the book down, though. He's not in the mood to be a total jackass today.]
So you'd recommend this one, then.

Oh, definitely. The writer does some great things with anaphora, especially when it comes to his poems about loss. If you're not a fan of low diction he might not be to your tastes though.
[The way Chuuya says 'anaphora' is definitely the way a person who actually uses that word in regular conversation says it, so. Someone experienced with poetry.]
no subject
...I'm from a place where low diction is more or less to be expected. I've never considered whether I'm a fan of it or not.

[He seems to shrug a bit.]
We're not really ones for the fine arts, where I came from; we've always had more pressing matters at hand.
no subject
[No, Chuuya, I'm sure he couldn't tell.]
no subject
[you don't say.]
We had more of a place for the arts when I was growing up, but that was some time ago; I was still a child then. I suppose one could say I'm nostalgic.
[He'll go back to looking the shelves over as he speaks; just...seeing what's here, even if he isn't registering a lot of it.]
I admit that reading has never been something I particularly enjoy either way; I'm wondering if I'll be equally unimpressed with poetry or not.

[So, like. He's literal-minded to a fault, basically.]

[...]
I assume you've never been one for politics, either, while we're discussing occupations not taken.
no subject
[He says it with more distaste than he does for actual swear words.]
No thank you.
no subject
I can't say I fault you any. The entire business is full of vipers.

Uh.
Hi again.
[Nailed it.]

Pleasure's mine.
[Said in the blunt sort of way that implies that he has no idea what actually constitutes a pleasure, but he sure does know what a formality is.
He does relax a bit, though, now that that's out of the way.]
If it's about my father still, it's as I said - it's well over and done with, and it hardly troubles me at this point.

[After some consideration, he reaches out to give Michalis' shoulder a pat. Not a hug, but it's something.]

People tend to have that reaction. Even back there, some tried offering me sympathy; it was a strange experience.
[...It was either sympathy or it was like. Whatever Gotoh was trying to do, which was a whole mess of confusing for no discernible reason.]
no subject
Yeah, that's a thing people tend to do when they meet somebody who's had it rough.
